JOB SUMMARY:Our innovative, rapidly growing client organization is seeking an experienced power electronics engineer to lead their power conversion technology development efforts. Their power conversion subsystems consist of DC/DC converters, a battery bus, and an inverter/charger system to produce grid-quality AC power. A primary aim of our client organization is the protection of the environment through the development and implementation of clean energy solutions.

Daily tasks of this position will ultimately contribute to revolutionizing the energy industry. These day-to-day duties include system design, specification and documentation, simulation, synthesis and analysis, control design and hands-on system testing and verification of power electronics systems.
Candidates must have master’s level training, or equivalent years of work related experience, in the design and control of power electronics converters, with specific knowledge in the design of DC/DC, DC/AC and AC/DC converter systems ranging from 1 to 10kW. A strong background in any areas related to power conversion, power generation, electro-mechanical systems, and electronic controls is beneficial.
The Electrical Engineer, Power Electronics plans, oversees and executes projects associated with power electronics subsystem development. In addition, the Engineer will be the primary communication contact with internal partners as well as external suppliers in order to effectively meet very rapid product development timelines. The Electrical Engineer, Power Electronics identifies, develops, and guides the performance of outside resources and other team members to perform effectively.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: - High power electronics design, with emphasis on DC/DC and AC/DC converters, in power ranges from 1 kW to 10 kW
- Design of high power, efficient buck and boost converters and switch mode power supplies
- Electronic control circuitry with MOSFET and IGBT switches for power converters
- Digital Signal Processing/Microcontroller/Microprocessor integration
- Schematic entry and PCB layout
- Troubleshooting power electronics and digital electronics
- Strong understanding of EMI issues and parasitic parameters, such as stray inductance
- High voltage isolation
- Be a key contributor to systems engineering, integrating power electronics into the overall system
- Ownership of the Engineering Change Request/Engineering Change Orders
- Ensure engineering documentation is timely and accurate
- Develop and maintain appropriate analysis capabilities, including ownership of tool selection
- Select appropriate components for the target design
- System design, analysis, and specification
- Serve as a peer reviewer for design efforts throughout the organization
- Ensure that designs have been validated and thoroughly documented prior to production release.
- Provide guidance/support and provide technical assistance to Field Services Engineering group.
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineering group to coordinate design activities and ensure thorough, accurate documentation of electrical and electromechanical subassemblies.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to coordinate implementation of new designs, and develop transition plans to bridge between design revisions.
- Perform scoping studies and analyze technical feasibility of new product development projects.
Required Qualifications: - BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study.
- Minimum 8 years of design and project experience with increasing responsibilities
- Demonstrated ability to carry a product design from conception into production
- Hands-on design experience, including familiarity with a wide variety of mechanical, electromechanical, and thermal systems, including metals, plastics, and the associated fabrication techniques
- Experience with project planning and execution
- Excellent communication skills
- Familiarity with engineering documentation systems
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
- Demonstrated experience with high power, efficient boost converters and switch mode power supplies
- Experience with electronic control circuitry with MOSFET and IGBT switches for power converters
- Digital Signal Processing/Microcontroller/Microprocessor integration experience
- Experience with Altium Designer preferred – other layout tools acceptable
- Experience troubleshooting power electronics and digital electronics
- Demonstrated understanding of EMI issues and parasitic parameters, such as stray inductance
- Experience with grid-interactive systems
Desired Qualifications: - MS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study.
- Proficient with codes and standards for fuel cells and other grid connected products
- Familiarity with electrical power systems, instrumentation, and embedded controls.
- Three phase power systems experience
